Popular street snacks include arepas, which are crispy or soft cornmeal cakes; empanadas filled with meat, cheese, or potatoes. Other popular foods include bandeja paisa, buñuelos and natilla. Additionally, the city is known for its fresh fruit, such as maracuyá (passion fruit), lulo, and guava, which are often used in juices and desserts. These street foods are an essential part of Medellín’s urban culture.
Bandeja Paisa is a quintessential Colombian dish originating from the Antioquia region, especially Medellín. It features a large platter with white rice, red beans cooked with pork, ground meat, or chicharrón. This robust meal is a symbol of regional pride.
Buñuelos are a popular traditional Colombian street food and festive treat in Medellín. It is made of deep-fried, crispy cheese fritters.
